Radio Show and Phantom Fans Week Appearances

Fri Sep 11, 2009, 4:13 PM
All Things Phantom Radio Show
I was a guest on the Internet radio show, All Things Phantom ([link]) on August 22, 2009. Please check out the show page to listen to the interview, featuring discussion of my costumes, makeup, and website.

Phantom Fans Week
PHANTOM: The Las Vegas Spectacular will be hosting Phantom Fans Week ([link]) at the Venetian Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV September 16-20, 2009. I will be in attendance, and in costume for the Masquerade Ball on the 17. This is a promising new event with many highlights; first and foremost is the presence of Hal Prince! :) If you are also in town for the event, please come up and say hello! I always love meeting fellow Phantom fans.

Site Updates
As of the beginning of September, Phantom on a Budget ([link]) is now an advertising-free site (finally!). No more obnoxious pop-up ads to deal with. I also have a new email address: phantom@phantomonabudget.com. Please use this for any questions relating to the content of the website.

Thank you all for your continued interest and support of Phantom on a Budget. I love receiving emails and guestbook entries, and am still completely flattered that people offer compliments of the work on the site. As always, I am thrilled to help others with costume or makeup questions, so please keep the emails coming!

Halloween, Costume, and Wig Videos on YouTube

Sun Oct 26, 2008, 2:00 PM
Hello deviantArt! Happy Halloween season to all of you. :) First piece of news is a video blog from me, which includes some news from around the Phantom of the Opera community: [link]

Second, while in costume last night for some Halloween festivities, I took some time to film two quick segments on some of my costume pieces. Many people have sent questions about my sources for costumes, as well as general inquiries about the individual pieces themselves. I try to answer all of them in the following two videos:
Part I: [link]
Part II: [link]

As always, this information is also available on my how-to website, Phantom on a Budget ([link]).

Back in August I did a tutorial for making wigs using bald caps, liquid latex, and crepe and/or synthetic hair. This is the cheap, quick and dirty way to create a slicked-back hairstyle.

This is inspired by Dick Smith's Do-It-Yourself Monster Makeup book, which is a must have if you're interested in low budget, yet remarkably effective Halloween makeup schemes. In the book, Mr. Smith demonstrates this basic wig making technique while designing a Werewolf look which rivals that of the classic monster from old Hollywood.

Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone! :)

Horrorfind Convention Video

Sun Aug 17, 2008, 1:43 PM
I have just returned from Horrorfind Weekend 10 (www.horrorfindweekend.com) with video of the convention's costume contest and a vlog update from me (in costume and makeup, of course).

There will be an upcoming wig tutorial video, for those interested in making wigs (particularly those with an exposed hairline like the Phantom wig) on a tight budget.

Phantom Makeup Videos!

Thu May 15, 2008, 2:32 AM
After much procrastination I finally got around to shooting the Phantom makeup how-to video series. With an unexpected (and welcome) day off from work, I shot for about 8 hours in order to get this done, so hopefully it'll prove useful to someone!

This is a six-part series detailing how to create great Halloween/Phantom of the Opera makeup on a budget. Learn how to create basic 3-dimensional effects using simple techniques and low cost materials.

Part I: Introduction
Part II: Introduction to Liquid Latex and Foundation Makeup
Part III: Supplies
Part IV: Latex Application
Part V: Coloring the Makeup
Part VI: Conclusion (the final look!)

As of right now (8:30pm) Parts I-III are uploaded. Bear with me while I struggle with my shaky Internet connection as I get Parts IV-VI on YouTube. There's also an upcoming Blooper Reel, Deep Thoughts and Halloween Advice, and eventually a video log/interview with me, in costume of course.

Back on YouTube, Feature, and New Stock, oh my!

Wed Feb 20, 2008, 3:52 PM
Yes, it's true; as if proof of my fangirlishness was not abundant enough, I have yet again posted a Phantom on a Budget video on YouTube. Sadly it does not feature the rest of the Phantom on a Budget cast, only myself. I was in full makeup last fall for a test run of the Halloween stuff, and decided to goof off by lip syncing to the OLC version of Music of the Night. Pathetic? A little. Amusing? Very much so. It's all in good fun. I find it particularly funny because of the pile of hockey equipment stuffed in the corner, hiding under my cape (which was revealed in DRAMATIC FASHION per the demands of my acting skills).

Some of my stock on FantomeAngel was featured in AzurylipfesStock's stock resources article. [link] Thank you so much!

Of course I must mention the latest stock addition to FA: the Lon Chaney stock set. [link]
It only took me several months to get around to trying that makeup again, but I'm glad I did. It was a bit rushed and unpolished, but it was fun trying something new and I like the results. :)
